The Sylvia Pincott Garden

In 2002 the Pinegrove Garden Club celebrated its 50th anniversary.  To mark this occasion, the Club approached the Museum to implement the Sylvia Pincott Garden on the Trethewey House Heritage Site.  A partnership of the Pinegrove Garden Club, Naturescape BC, Abbotsford Backyard Habitat and the MSA Museum Society and, in keeping with the City of Abbotsford’s commitment as a Naturescape community, the garden embodies Naturescape principles in keeping with the ideals of its namesake.

Environmentalist and naturalist, Sylvia Pincott co-authored the Naturescape B. C. Stewardship Series of publications, founded Abbotsford Backyard Habitat program and has been recognized for her efforts with a 1996 Minister’s Environmental Award.

The Pinegrove Garden Club

Over the past several years, members of the Pinegrove Garden Club have been invaluable to the upkeep of the site, supplementing the City’s maintenance of the lawns by caring for the site’s period gardens. In order to demonstrate the Club’s commitment to the site, it has adopted the Trethewey House Heritage Site as its community project and works to maintain the gardens on an on-going basis.
