      SCHOOL FAIR GUIDELINES

There are many different ways to hold a School Heritage Fair. Ideally, it will be a celebration that includes the entire school and acknowledges the achievements of all students. Although the Historica Regional Fair is only open to students in grades 4 to 9, all ages may create projects and participate in your School Fair.

      IDEAS AND SUGGESTIONS

bulletConsider holding your Fair during Heritage Week, the third week in February.
bulletRecruit parents and community leaders to be volunteer judges, and train them in whatever judging system you have decided to use.
bulletInvite clubs and community groups to attend your Fair and set up displays that will educate the students about their community.
bulletArrange for publicity, including the local paper and school newsletter.
bulletAllow sufficient time for all classes to view the student projects; if possible, keep the Fair open one evening for parents to visit.
bulletPlan heritage-related activities for students that will supplement the Fair and sustain their interest in history once the event is over.
bulletCommunicate Heritage Fair information to all staff members.

      REGIONAL FAIR SELECTION

Whatever type of School Fair you have held (competitive or display), each school is responsible for selecting its student projects that will attend the Regional Fair in Abbotsford. The following guidelines may help your selection:

bulletChoose a variety of project categories
bulletChoose a variety of student ages and sexes
bulletChoose projects that are innovative and creative
bulletChoose projects that are visually stimulating and attractive
bulletChoose projects that demonstrate the excellence of your school

We strongly suggest that the student representatives from your school be enthusiastic, co-operative and willing to follow instructions.

Please be sure that your students have agreed to attend the Regional Fair for the entirety of both days, and will follow the schedule.

Remember that the Student Project Registration, Written Summary,
and Code of Conduct forms for each student attending the Regional Fair
are due in the MSA Museum office no later than March 14, 2008.
